Help Files not recognized after Installation

I have just installed LibreOffice. But the downloaded and installed help files are not recognised by the program. Another answer suggests that the profile should specify country of the downloaded program and files. But I have never seen a way to create a profile, and the help files do not help.

What should I do next?

Edit [Opaque] Changed title to point to the real problem. In fact this is not a question about user profile.

Thank you for the prompt response. Answers below

  1. “The LibreOffice built-in help for current UI language (English (USA)) is not installed on your computer.”
  2. Default - English (USA)
  3. LibreOffice_6.2.8_Win_x64_helppack_en-GB (as I am in the UK)
  4. Win10 64-bit, 32 GB memory. LibreOffice_6.2.8_Win_x64 Build ID: f82ddfca21ebc1e222a662a32b25c0c9d20169ee

I have found the useful 5.0 Base handbook, which is being helpful at these early stage.
An additional problem has arisen. I downloaded and installed JRE using the Java unspecified download but this is not recognised by LibreOffice. My next task is to force a 64-bit JRE installation.

But the downloaded and installed help files are not recognised by the program

One thing you need to know: The language of your user interface and the language of the helppack must match. Therefore the answer to the following questions is required to allow for a serious answer:

  1. What is the message you get, when trying to open the Help -> LibreOffice Help – or F1?
  2. What is your language setting in Tools -> Options -> Language Setttings -> Languages -> Dropdown: User Interface?
  3. What is the language of the help files you downloaded (just give the filename)?
  4. What is your operating system and LibreOffice version?

Please do not use Add Answer to provide the additional information but edit your original question

PS: For the moment forget anything about profile / user profile
PPS: If you have no local help you always can use online help at https://help.libreoffice.org/

Hello,

the thing is clear according to your answers:

Answer 2: Default - English (USA) (User Interface)
Answer 3: LibreOffice_6.2.8_Win_x64_helppack_en-GB → en-GB

=> this does not match, since en-US not equals en-GB (as the error message already indicates). So you have two options (choose only one of the options):

Option 1 Change your User Interface setting to English (UK) to match the installed help pack

  • Go to Tools -> Options -> Language Setttings -> Languages -> Dropdown: User Interface
  • Select English (UK)
  • Restart LibreOffice

Option 2 Install en-US helppack to match your User Interface setting

Hope that helps.

I followed Option 1, but that did not work.
So I repaired the help file, that did not work.
This time I uninstalled the help file. I re-installed it on the C: drive (a fairly small fast SSD drive) instead of the D: drive where it was previously.
That seems to be working now.

As I recall during installation, there was no option to install LibreOffice on any drive, but there was on the help file. As this is causing problems (to me at least), it would help either to force the installations to be on the same drive, or to change the internal referencing to the helpfile that reflects the installation choices.

I am using Win10/64 version 6.4.4.2 I installed Libre, complete with the help files (which ARE there) on my D drive (trying to save my SSD C drive for things that just won’t go elsewhere). The language types (Default - English (USA)) match. I tried a reinstall/repair. Same problem - still getting: “The LibreOffice built-in help for current UI language (English (USA) is not installed on your computer.” underneath which is “You may either install it from our website or your system’s repositories, or read an online version.” So there’s a bug. Apparently I could fix it by reinstalling everything on my C drive, but I don’t want it there. I don’t like using my bandwidth for online help, but I like using up my limited C drive even less. This is my first time using the forum, so I’m not sure how (or if I’m allowed) to open up a bug/ticket. If this could generate or be moved to a bug report, that would be helpful. FYI, Libre Office is GREAT. Thanks!

Thank you.

Heh, we should make clear in the help installer that it must be installed into the same directory as LibreOffice itself.

Please file a bug about that.

By the way, LibreOffice also allows to choose where to put it, using advanced setup.
