Help with frustrating hotkey (attempting to paste into range of cells)

When I use libreoffice, I will tend to copy cells and then use shift and down arrow to select a range of cells to paste. Pretty standard stuff I think.

Anyway, one thing that has always provided a bit of frustration is that every once in a while when I attempt to use shift and down arrow, Libreoffice instead selects everything from my origin cell to the top left cell of my sheet.

I will then just hit the down arrow to get back to near where I started, and do the same thing again and usually it works the second time.

I have been trying to figure out under what circumstances it does it (in case I am dragging my finger across another key), but it doesn’t give me this problem every time.

Of course I had this issue a few minutes ago, and now I am trying to replicate it and cannot make it happen.

I couldn’t find anything in the list of hotkeys but figured maybe it has been asked and answered before.

Are you working with a complete keyboard? Or in a small notebook’s one (with Fn keys and so)?

It is a regular keyboard, and it does this on multiple computers. I try to be cognizant of my keystrokes (maybe I am just sloppy on the keys) but I don’t think it is the case. I suppose I could install a keylogger to see if I am somehow hitting an extra key somewhere.

When it does happen, it is like it registers me hitting shift-ctrl-up and shift-ctrl-left simultaneously. I originally thought it was selecting all cells to A1, but it actually goes to B1 (column A is empty).

Would you share a sample file? Maybe you can use colors to differentiate the copied and target ranges. Edit your question, and use the upload icon. Thanks.

I may have found the issue - once I removed the freeze between rows 1 and 2, the issue has stopped.

Will continue to use it and see what develops.

I use Ctrl+Shift+↓ (Down Arrow). I have not encountered your problem… Ubuntu 18, LO 7.2

Ctrl+Shift+Arrow: Selects all cells of the range created by the cursor movements using the Ctrl+Arrows key combinations. If used to select rows and columns together, a rectangular cell range is selected.
