Hover text on bottom bar of window

I’m on a Mac. When I hover over say the Search down icon some text comes up in a little box which actually covers the ‘search down’ icon so I can’t click it. I have to keep moving the cursor until the silly hover text goes. What is this hover text called and how can I get rid of it?

Thanks.

What do you mean by “Search down icon”?

Can you post a screenshot of the problem (or a link to one)?

OK, see the down arrow highlighted. There will be a hover box with ‘Find Next’ in it. I want to suppress these hover notices as they get in the way and are so obvious anyway. I cannot show the actual hover as the screen capture requires the pointer to be moved to select the screen area on a Mac screen. Thanks.

I find the Help on Libre Office useless. I have never yet found what I was searching for.

They are often called Tool Tips - search the Help for tips

Search for ‘tips’ did not bring up any result. looked through the whole of the Preferences: Nothing. Thanks for the tip.

An alternative: You can pull the toolbar on the handlebar with the mouse button anywhere else, where it does not bother. Can this help you?

Actually that does thanks. I see now after searching Tools that tips are always enabled. That’s pretty useless in a system where the icons are designed to be pretty obvious.

Program changes and suggestions for improvement can be entered in Bugzilla.

Many thanks. I have changed it to false. Rather non intuitive and I had undocked the search panel so learnt a bit more. Thanks for your time.

Hello @happyhacker.

I am not able to test this on Mac right now, and I suppose some menu items will have other names, but I believe you will figure it out. Here is the the source topic and the solution steps for Win7 / LO 6.0.4.2

  1. Select Tools -> Options... in top menu. I think it should be LibreOffice -> Preferences on Mac system
  2. Navigate to LibreOffice -> Advanced screen and select Open Expert Configuration
  3. Search for org.openoffice.Office.Common in the Search window
  4. Select Help --- Tip --- boolean --- true line and press Edit to change value to False
  5. Confirm changes with Ok
