ProWritingAid tech help said their system works with Open Office, not LibreOffice. I wrote my book in LO and uploaded it to PWA so I could edit it. PWA converts it into their format but their system will revert back to your original software in the same format. I paid a lot for a lifetime membership to PWA. I spent many hours working on my LO formatted book within the PWA format while I used their editing. Now when I export it won’t revert back to LO, and in my FireFox download box it only gives me LO to download back in and notes basically my PWA format is in MicroSoft Word. I feel in a paradoxical situation, plus a time constraint with a pro formatter. I’m wondering how I can use OO again so it will convert back. PWA says they have 1.5 million writers. There must be many who use LO that have the same problem. Am I not alone? Thanks for your attention.
How can I convert my ProWritingAid formatted document back into the way I originally had it in LibreOffice?
And what do you want from here? This site is for questions and answers about LibreOffice usage, not about PWA. Hardly anyone can explain PWA practices better than their staff.
Thus said, try to ask a question within the scope of this site.
Just a remark:
their system works with Open Office
There is no such thing. There is Apache OpenOffice and there was OpenOffice.org. So, what do you / they mean actually? And why not LibreOffice?
Thank you for your response. Sorry as my writing was convoluted. Does Open Office software still exist and LO the upgrade replacement? It seemed all happened automatically in my computer, that OO designed it so it all transferred to the new LO and all my little document icons all changed from OO to LO. “Why not LO?” PWA technical help said LO must have more bells and whistles than OO and it doesn’t work with PWA. So I came here to ask if I can still get OO, or with so many writers subscribing to PWA (1.5 million) I also asked if a lot of other LO users had the same problem. Is Apache Open Office completely different than LO, a different entity? Did LO then automatically change all my documents from Apache Open Office to LO?
Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice are quite similar as both descend from the same ancestor, OpenOffice.org. However, AOO is a separate project. When you installed LO, LO hijacked file associations, but if you had AOO, it remained in the system. You can have both office suits and use them as necessary.
Hi To All!
Thanks Gabix for your advice! If anyone else might toss in any ideas please do, but my original post is kind of convoluted so read the next one I wrote below my original post, my second clearer (hopefully ha) wording. Sorry as I get verbose at times!
Hi All and Gabix!
I finally figured it out! Yes PWA recognizes LO and maybe because a tech help person emailed the right department in PWA about the problem. Here is what I did that you can take at 90% so far, but the bottom line I got it to format my edited PWA manuscript back to my original LO format, a big deal in my case and probably the case of many others.
I figured it out 90% and it works! If I work on my whole book in PWA and Save as I edit, and ignore the PWA warning window I’m better off editing 10K at a time and not create a file for each chapter and at the very end Export the whole book. I then click and drag it from my FireFox downloads list into my computer and open it, then it is all formatted as it was in the beginning. At one point Tech help alerted the problem about LO not working, maybe they finally very recently changed it. I think this helps people here at LO too, at least I hope. Thanks for all of your patience!
Thanks very much for your reply. Yes I upload it as LO odt. To go into editing with PWA, PWA strips down to their formatting to all left justified, no indents or italics, single spaced, and Serif font. They say don’t worry as once I’m finished and export it back to my computer it will be in the original formatting, in my case LO. PWA Tech help said PWA does not support LO, but they support OO. I sent my entire manuscript to them and a separated chapter (I worked by separating one chapter at a time and won’t do that again.) PWA Tech help guy said he couldn’t get it to revert back to LO either and sent my stuff on to another department. I felt LO forum-goers might know (PWA has no such forum) and must be other writers with the same problem trying to resolve from the LO end too.
To keep it simple, I in the end figured it out. I didn’t want to leave my thread unresolved and others trying to answer, thus my last post that you read. I did the same with PWA help too. Sorry my writing is convoluted. I’ll copy/paste into my own files to refer back to this, and return to see if anyone else might add something. I have a time constraint with my manuscript so I’m happy with the degree, not 100%, that I figured things out at this point. I have to keep on with things here. I am grateful for the help I received!
