The simplest way to delete a footnote is to delete the anchor.
To find the anchor, click on the note number at the bottom of the page. The cursor jumps to the anchor.
Trick: to better see the anchors, enable View>Field Shadings (and also View>Formatting Marks which is a largely underestimated helping tool).
