How can I edit email addresses in calc

I have an address list in a spreadsheet. When I enter an email address it changes the text format and seems to make it a hyperlink of some kind. If I try to edit it, I get weird results. Example:
existing: jonhsmith@gmail.com
edit to insert a q after john
expect to see "johnqsmith@gmail.com
all i see is “q” in the automatic format.

How can I make the cell just a text format or at least be able to edit it!

Windows 10 and Version: 6.3.4.2 (x64)

Hello,

  • To remove the hyperlink: Select the cell and CTRL+M
  • To edit the hyperlink: Mark the text and CTRL+K
  • To prevent creation at all: Deactivate Tools -> AutoCorrect Options ... -> Tab: Options -> Option: [ ] URL recognition
