How can I open a database created using Open Office in Libre Office?

I created a database using Open Office a few years ago and I am generally using Libre Office now. However I cannot open a database that I created using Open Office, in Libre Office. Is there a way that I can do this?

However I cannot open a database that I created using Open Office

Any error message, when trying to open?

Thanks for reponding. Yes, I get an error message:
“The connection could not be created. Perhaps the necessary data provider is not installed.”
At first I thought that Java was not installed properly as I had made changes to my PC, but now I have re-installed java it has made no difference.

Hmm - reinstalling 32-bit java while using 64-bit LibreOffice won’t help at all, since bitness must match. Hence more information is required to help:

  • Which java did you install 32-bit or 64-bit?
  • Which LibreOffice version do you use and which bitness (32-bit or 64-bit)?
  • Did you assure that LibreOffice found your Java installation (In Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> Advanced is Java listed and Location shown)?
  • Did you assure that it is really enabled (Option [x] Use a Java runtime environment)?

And please also mention the operating system you are using and the type of database (embedded HSQLDB?).

Hi, I have just checked your queries, and:
I have checked that I have installed 64 bit Java
64 bit Libre Office in use
I have gone through your Tools etc link and the info says “ticked” Use a Java Runtime environment
“Java runtime environment (JRE) already installed”
but the location is not shown, and when I try to add the correct directory, I get a message to say that the folder I have selected does not contain a runtime environment. What file should I be looking for? The file I have chosen holds java.exe
Operating system is Windows 10
Not sure of the type of database. How do I find out.
By the way when I open the database in Open Office (which it does OK) I can find a reference to the JRE
Regards,

And you see the installed Java listed in the pane below the option and the radio button activated - similar(!!!) to this screenshot:?
(don’t mind the details - I’m using Linux).

No, there is nothing in the Vendor / Version / Features box.
When I try to “add” I lead it to the Jave folder in programs 64, but then I get the message that the folder does not contain a JRE.

I understood that, but in general it is not required to use Add functionality, since LibreOffice will detect a valid Java installation automatically. If the information doesn’t appear of a Java installation automatically, then most likely using Add won’t cure an existing problem. Hence:

What exactly did you install?

Please provide

  • Filename of your Java installation package
  • Installation directory (into which path did your Java install)
  • Exact download URL

(It seems definitely to be a problem of your Java installation)
