How can I share my Draw themes?

How can I share themes I make in Draw with other team members?

  • I see where it says the name of the file is in the theme properties in AppData
  • I go there are see 3 files
  • I can copy those 3 files elsewhere and rename them
  • In the Gallery if I press New… and browse for it, but I cannot import it that way nor any other way that I’ve found.

I’ve checked the Help, Googled, and when I started this topic I found nothing like it. Is what I’m attempting to do possible from a practical perspective?

Thanks!

It is not clear if you’re asking about “styles”, i.e. a collection of parameters for shapes and other Draw objects, or about complex drawing objects you’d like to find in your Gallery.

Part of the answer is to make your reference Draw document into a template file (which will end up with extension .odt) and register it with LO. Then when you create a document with File>New>Template, all your styles and initial contents are already in the new document.

I feel sure drawing templates have the extension .otg.

You’re right. I didn’t check, thinking of other things at the same time. I should always focus my attention on the current task, even when I consider it “easy”. Old age?

Themes are made up of references to files found in either a single folder or multiple folders. They are not the images themselves.

If you could share themes with other team members, those members computers would need to be sharing the same paths to the folder or folders in question.

If your desire is to share the images referenced in the themes with team members, I suggest placing the images in a single folder and sharing that folder with the team members. They could then easily make their own theme from the files in that folder.

The images never resided on the disk. They were simply copied from a Visio drawing and into a LibreOffice Draw drawing, and then dragged from the drawing into the theme. I noted the theme references a .sdg file in the local roaming profile, and noted an .sdg, .sdv, and a .thm are created when a theme is created. Each time I drag a new image into the new theme, the .svg and .svv files grow in size. From that I assumed that I could simply name and distribute those 3 files.

I’m thinking I could make up a LibreOffice Draw drawing, place all of the stencils into a single drawing, and save it as a template. They could open it read-only and copy and paste from it. It could be sent as a file, or shared via DropBox or WebDAV if the above doesn’t work.

Thanks!

That sounds like a viable solution for sharing the images.
