How do I clean up LO's elephant memory registrymodifications.xcu

My LO’s elephant memory ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/registrymodifications.xcu has grown up to 3,9 MiB.

I know, LO stores in it

  • program settings,
  • especially shortcut definitions and other things which are manipulated by Tools>Customize and Tools>Options
  • but also quite ephemeral things like the last files one has worked with.

In my current ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/registrymodifications.xcu I see lots of large parts with e.g. <prop oor:name=“Thumbnail” oor:op=“fuse”> <value>, followed by a plethora of incomprehensible hodgepodge of letters, digits and special characters.

How can I clean up registrymodifications.xcu without destroying any of the configuration settings made with Tools>….?

my …registrymodifications.xcu is roundabout 1,8MiB, but yes lot of stored base64 -encoded thumbnails may blow up the config

  1. Menu / Tools / Options / LibreOffice / Advanced / Open Expert Configuration

Search: Thumbnail

Change value of properties GenerateThumbnail and RecentDocsThumbnail to false.
OK
OK

  1. Menu / File / Recent Documents / Clear LIst.

Thank you, sokol92, the size of this file dropped to ca 180 kiB!
I checked a few customizations (shortcut assignments) which I had made before: they were still present.
