How do I create a template that will automatically generate the specific new document’s name in the footer? I do not want to generate the ‘template name’ I want to capture the name (date, and time) of the actual document so that when I refer to a printed copy I can clearly identify what the document was called and when it was printed (or created). I want to set up a template to do this automatically for me rather than creating that field afresh in every new document.
Turn on your footer and click inside it. In the menu select Insert > Field > More Fields or press Ctrl+F2.
In the dialog that opens select the tab labelled Document, under the heading Type, select File name, under Format choose your preferred option.
Tab to your next tab in the footer. In the same dialog box under Type select Date, under Select choose Date (fixed) for creation date from template or Date which will update on opening so will print with today’s date (Update All will update it if it is left constantly open), select the Format. Repeat for Time.
Save your template, the fields will show the template details but if you create a new document from the template the fields will reflect the new document on save.
There is a icon that can be added to the toolbar, Update All, I normally customise the toolbar to add it on a new installation of LO. Cheers, Al
Thank you Al, that is brilliant, just what I wanted.
