How do I get automatic spelling to highlight a misspelled word in Writer using OSX

(See below for application and system details)

I am using Dark Mode, but I can’t see any underline for misspelled words with Automatic Spell Checking enabled (check mark next to menu item in Tools menu is showing). There is no Tools>Options menu item, which is where I am supposed to find the Application Colors menu item. How can I set, enable or adjust the colour of the squiggle underline identifier for misspelled words?

I also have the same problem in being unable to see any highlight for when the Find feature finds the word or phrase I’m looking for.

Thanks.

Version: 25.2.5.2 (AARCH64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 03d19516eb2e1dd5d4ccd751a0d6f35f35e08022
CPU threads: 10; OS: macOS 15.6; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: osx
Locale: en-CA (en_CA.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

For Mac, the path is similar to other Mac applications, Preferences > LibreOffice…

You might need to restart LibreOffice to see the effect of colour change

Thanks. There is no Preferences>LibreOffice that ends up with ‘Application Colors’ or something like it.

Sorry I was doing it from memory, it is LibreOffice > Preferences > Application Colours
MacLibreOfficePreferences

Thanks: I know where Preferences is. Here’s mine:

There’s no submenu leading to anything like Application Colors.

The new name is Appearance. Under the heading Customizations, click on the Items field (filled with Document background) and from the drop down, select Spelling mistakes

Thank you!!! Excellent!

Well, I thought that changing the colour of the Automatic Spell Checking would make the squiggle appear under ai misspelled word, but it did not.

In addition to apply EarnestAI’s solution in various colours, this squiggle did not appear. The check mark is showing adjacent to the spell-checking menu item in the Tools menu, and control-clicking on a misspelled word displays a list of replacement words, as expected, so those parts appear to be working.

But LO still won’t display the squiggle.

I thought maybe it might be the menu theme I’m using that might be causing the problem, so I applied other menu themes, but that made no difference.

Nor does the squiggle appear if I switch to light mode.

Also—maybe this is related to the problem or maybe not–when I search for a word or a phrase, LO does NOT sufficently highlight the found word or phrase. There’s a faint mark underlying the found word but it’s really hard to see.

Any further Ideas of how to get the squiggle and/or find highlight working again? I’m at a frustrated loss.

It is still faint when set to white, I think some sort of smoothing merges it into the background. Most colours do not show up well against black unless the text/line/mark is bolder than needed on a white background. You cannot bold the spelling underline I think, you could file a bug report, How to Report Bugs in LibreOffice - The Document Foundation Wiki.
Workaround, use F7, Tools > Spelling.

That would be Accent colour but it will change the highlight colour for menus and toolbars also.

Once again thanks. This is much appreciated.

And Accent Color is set by OSX. I have that set on multiple.
