How do I insert an image purely as a design element in Writer?

I am trying to design a template for stationary in writer. Every time I try to insert the image, it comes with a box at the bottom saying “Illustration 1:” and space for a caption. As the image in strictly decorative, this otherwise helpful extra is not only not needed, it is definitely not wanted. I looked through the formatting window and find nothing to help me.

I’d be grateful for any help. Is there a way to insert the image as a background image?

Thank you so much for the information. It really helped.

You may have autocaption enabled.

To check, open Tools|Options, LibreOffice Writer|AutoCaption. There is a list under Add captions automatically when inserting: with individual check boxes.

Untick the ones you don’t need. Personally I untick them all in order to have full control.

EDIT

If you want your image to appear on every page, similarly to a watermark, insert it in a header or footer and position it anywhere in the page with its properties.

Thanks for answering so quidkly1

I looked in both customize and options under the Tools menu. Images are mentioned under View and Print in both Writer and Writer/Web - but there is nothing to control the captions. When I insert an image into the body of a document I can delete the “Illustration 1: . . .” but it deletes the image. I can change the text color of “Illustraion 1:” to white, but the lines of the boxes print out-very faintly to be sure, but you can still see them - and I am 83 yo with Macular Ddegeneration.

It seems to me that only in formal documents that go out to an audience that captions are important. If I am writing to a friend and putting a few snapshots in - a box with “illustratrion 1” and so forth is pretty high fallutin’ for a casual letter.

Now maybe I’m not going to the right screens - but the other items on the Tools menu are pretty direct.
I wish I knew the secret.

EDIT: The answer belongs to @ajlittoz; I just added an image to explain.

EDIT 2: If you cut the image that is in the frame, you can (delete the frame and) paste the image (that won’t keep the frame).
