I want to have multiple writer documents displayed on my computer screen at the same time, so that I can work on all of them. How do I do this?
Menu/Window/New window
This is to display a document in more than one window. So, the answer for the title.
See LibreOffice Help on New Window.
You are right, too quick. I have read recently that this option will be available on the next mayor release LibreOffice 8
To display more than one document at the same time, open them and resize the window of each one as needed.
See LibreOffice Help on File - Open.
Thanks to everybody who responded. I really appreciate it. Thanks to you i discovered 4 ways of getting a document into a new window:
- Yes, going to Help>files>opening shows that executing Main menu>File>Open brings up a directory from which I could select any file and it would open in a new window.
- Also, executing Main menu>File>Recent Documents and selecting a document, opens the selected document in a new window.
- Launching from whiskers (xubuntu start menu) menu, Writer will open a new window to which can be added the desired document.
- Executing Main menu>Window>New Window will cause the current document to be again opened in a new window. Although it is awkward, another document can be opened in the same window and the duplicated document then be closed.
My problem was that I was launching my documents by double clicking in my file browser (Thunar) window, which always launches the new document into the existing window and I could find no way to separate the multiple documents into multiple windows for simultaneous display.

This must not happen if you made changes to the previously open file.
