How do I retain embedded sounds in pptx or ppt files?

Sounds can be easily embedded on each slide - and are retained when saving as odp however when saving as ppt or pptx these sounds are not retained (only noticed when closing LO after the export, then opening the pptx or ppt file) - is this a bug in LibreOffice 6.0?

Hello,

this seems to be bug #tdf126165 - FILESAVE PPTX: Embedded MP3 audio or a link to it not saved in presentation. No fix yet.

Thanks. Maybe this is fixed in LibreOffice 7.0? Meanwhile WPS Office 2019 for Linux v11 manages this well.

Maybe this is fixed in LibreOffice 7.0?

As stated in my answer “No fix yet”, which includes 7.0 as well. Please check the bug report regularly yourself.

I do understand that the bug report states that ‘no fix’ applies to all LO versions from 4.0.0.3 onwards - but hoped that somehow it got fixed & forgotten… and I can confirm ‘no fix’ having upgraded to LO v6.4.6 and then to 7.0.1.2. With university lectures now going online this is no longer a minor bug - can it be escalated somehow?

can it be escalated somehow?

I don’t think so (other than by creating a duplicate bug report, since the number of duplicates seems to be the internal measure of "urgency* [quite dumb]). LibreOffice is not managed by some kind of a vendor, support is given by volunteers on this site and development rather is driven by personal preferences than by commercial interests . You could leave a comment within the bug report, but lack of voluntary(!) software developers is the main reason prohibiting fast bug resolution

The solution is simple - just don’t use alien formats as :pptx and use LibreOffice’s native ODF format for all LibreOffice modules (in this case: Save as .odp).

Thanks Opaque - well we are very lucky to have LibreOffice at all - so huge thanks to the voluntary effort that goes into it! I also agree about ODF formats - I use these all the time - a perfect universal standard & wish MS would simply make this their default. I think MS Office can import ODF files - but am not sure how well it does it (nobody in this household has used anything but Linux for years - Windows PC maintenance problems are a distant memory). My only problem this time was ‘authorities’ insisting on stuff being submitted as pptx!

‘authorities’ insisting on stuff being submitted as pptx!

I understand …

… a monopoly keeps a monopoly cause it’s a monopoly

(regardless of the monopoly claiming interoperability with the rest of the world. This claim[here: MS Office claims to be able to open ODF format] in fact finally isn’t required any longer). I’d really like to know, how many bug reports exist at MS development department for incomplete, unsuccessful and failing ODF imports. Sorry for being off-topic now …
