how do I set LO to be the default to open word documents (as opposed to Pages)

I have a MacBook Pro running El Capitan (10.11.6) and I have an external HD with Snow Lep that still can run Word for Mac. But I want to be able to use a program that can read and write MS Word files (Pages does not do this effectively).
