I have looked at FAQ without getting an answer. I am trying to replace straight quotes with curly and did not ask Autocorrect to change the font. I do not see an autocorrect option that specifies change font. TIA.
Can you post a sample in which this happens?
After a Heading n, the next paragraph style is Body Text.
The font for Body Text is inherited from that set in Default Paragraph Style.
Default Paragraph Style uses the font set in Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Basic Fonts unless the user changes Default Paragraph Style to uses a different font.
.
It can be seen then if a paragraph is direct formatted to use, say Times New Roman, and the next paragraph is Heading 2, then the subsequent paragraph will uses the font defined for Body Text (inherited from Default Paragraph). Maybe this is the cause of your problem?
The solution to that is to edit the Default Paragraph Style to use the font that you actually want to use, in my example that would be Times New Roman.
Hi Earnest: Thanks for the help. I tried changing all the fonts in Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Basic Fonts to Tahoma, hit apply, and ran Autocorrect, but it still changed the text to Arial. (Which was the font specified for “List.”) My headings are in Cambria, so not sure where it’s getting Arial from.
How?
The way to do that is to open AutoCorrect Options window, select Localised Options and tick the Replace boxes (ensuring Default is set for the quotes).
There is an order in which attributes are applied
- Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Basic Fonts which is overridden by
- Paragraph styles which is overridden by
- Character styles which is overridden by
- Direct formatting
As can be seen, direct formatting overrides everything.
In Reverse:
- You can remove direct formatting by making a selection and clicking Format > Clear direct formatting (Ctrl+M)
- Make a selection, in the Styles pane choose Character styles and then double-click No Character Style to remove character styles
- To reset a child style to its parent style, select the relevant tab, e.g. Fonts, and click the button Reset to Parent
- To reset Default Paragraph Style to Basic Fonts select the relevant tab, e.g. Fonts, and click the button Reset to Parent
