How do you disable auto-save completely?

How do you completely disable auto-save? It’s driving me insane.

I usually keep about a dozen various spreadsheets open, and the default setting in Libre Calc is to auto-save, whether a change was made or not, every few minutes.

However, a limitation of Calc is that when one spreadsheet is being saved, ALL other spreadsheets freeze and become unusable. This means I can’t access my other 11 spreadsheets if one of them is saving, which, based on statistics, is pretty likely, since there’s a 1/12 chance one of the spreadsheets will be trying to auto save.

Plus, some of my spreadsheets are huge and take a couple minutes to save. As-is, Calc’s auto-save feature makes the entire application unusable.

I unchecked “Save AutoRecovery information every” under Tools->Options->Load/Save->General, but it had no effect. Calc still auto-saves every few minutes from some open spreadsheet.

@Cerin1,

I always work with multiple spreadsheets open (with auto recovery disabled), and I don’t experience this behavior. Can you please provide further information re: OS, LO version, etc? Thanks.

No, not is your case. The probability would be 1/12 only if the timing of the saves was entirely random (not every 3 minutes or whatever). There is also the duration of each save operation relative to the average frequency of the saves, an effect that I haven’t figured out yet. But this doesn’t solve your problem.

Please test in safe mode, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode

If you make changes to the AutoRecovery option then you should restart LibreOffice for it to take effect. Ref comment to resolved bug 149176 – When on the document turn off "Save autorecovery information every "10" minutes" after the document save every 10 minutes.

@EarnestAl - you are completely right, all versions released up to today require it. We changed that in the upcoming 24.2, so it will apply without a restart.
