How Edit "Boxes" (a Table?) That I Import to Open Office?

After importing by Copy and Paste a set of text highly formated in some unknown way, it appears in Open Office as if it’s in a series of boxes or perhaps a table of some kind.

I can edit the text; but how do I manipulate the “table” (if that’s what it is)?

There are empty boxes that seem superfluous that I would like to remove. Or could a box be resized? Some empty boxes seem to be used for spacing.
