How to add a feature to Libre Writer?

I’ve spent a long time learning Libre Office to format my book. However, just at the end, I’ve encountered a really problematic limitation: I cannot reset endnote numbering by chapter.

I need to be able to reset endnote numbering by chapter as I have hundreds of them. They all need to be listed at the of the book, separated by chapter.

I thought I’d be able to workaround this by keeping each chapter in separate documents and exporting each PDF individually, then compiling the with PDF Arranger. However, I realized this breaks the links between the in-text number and the endnote at the end. I don’t know how to relink them. It also makes things really tricky with inserting page numbers.

So, how can I get this feature implemented? How does the community usually prompt developers to implement something? Is it possible for me to contact developers directly and offer money for it to be quickly implemented? Where can I find such people?

Before requesting a new feature, make sure it does not already exists, perhaps under a slightly different form.

I see two issues in your pledge:

  • manipulating separately written parts: managed by the master/sub-documents feature
  • resetting endnote number per chapter
Does it really make sense? Notes are grouped together at end of document. Supposing the number is reset per chapter, it becomes ambiguous. When you flip the notes looking for number 17 and you’re presently on page showing note 5, is your note 17 forward or backward? Personally I prefer a globally unique number.
Otherwise, put all chapter notes at end of chapter. You’ll probably object it is not straightforward to find the notes parts, but you can add the chapter heading in the header as a tooltip.
