My drop caps come out with gray shading behind them. How to eliminate or lighten shading?
That shading is only there on edit, it will not be printed nor exported to PDF: it’s there just to tell that that part of the document is “special” in some way. If you prefer, it’s possible to disable it on Tools → Options → LibreOffice → Application colors → Text Documents → Field shadings.
