How to change the spell check language

How can I change the spell check language in LibreOffice ?

I already tried: Choose Tools - Options. Go to Language Settings - Languages. Under Default languages for documents, select the document language for all newly created documents

But this doesn’t work.
I Googled it and many forums are saying the same thing but it just doesn’t work even though the settings are set to Dutch it’s still only checking the English language.

This does not affect the current document nor does it affect any template your document may be derived from. It affects brand new documents not derived from a template.
Check “Current document only” on that dialog.
Or use Tools>Language>For all text>…

Language is an formatting attribute like color, font, size or underlining. You can use English paragraph styles and Spanish ones. Each paragraph will be spell checked in its respective language.
Same with character styles having their own language attribute. Language “[None]” disables all spell checking for the respective text.

This worked: Tools > Language > For all text

Thanks for the quick reply @Villeroy and @keme1 !

Different mindset makes it easier to work with: You don’t set the language for the Writer application. You set the language for your document content.

The setting you mentioned will select main language for new documents created in Writer. You can tick a box below the language fields to make that setting valid for your current document instead.

Additionally, you can set a language different from that main language for parts of your document, if you need. See Format - Character … and the character and paragraph styles.

For spellcheck to work in desired language(s), the dictionary for each language must be installed. A guide to installing new dictionaries can be found as a menu item under Tools - Languages. Already installed languages are marked with the “a/b-green-tick” icon in the list of languages.
