How to check and correct punctuation errors? (quotation marks and commas)

I am able to use grammar check using the built-in Language Tools functionality. But it does not flag particular punctuation errors, namely quotation marks without commas.

For example, in the case of [ “I went to the shop” said Jennifer ], the grammar check should highlight the lack of comma between ‘shop’ and ‘said’, but it doesn’t.

I know I can use autocorrect to replace [" ] with [," ], but this will erroneously change many sentences such as the following [“How are you?” said Karl] to [“How are you?,” said Karl]. Besides, I prefer to make all corrections manually.

Also, I am aware of how the comma may come before or after the quotation mark, depending on US vs UK grammar. The texts I seek to fix use a combination of no comma, US and UK variants, and I wish to make my texts consistent, and to highlight inconsistencies in the future.

I understand grammar check is a complex functionality and LanguageTools is a step behind proprietary tools, but I am surprised by this as it seems like the most simple of tasks.

I also experienced this phenomenon! I have a Language Tool premium account and LT itself did not pick up the missing comma and hence Writer also missed it. LT used to work on Word, but, unfortunately, I cannot check that at the moment.
I am on a PC running windows 11 and all systems up to date.
I trust that is useful to someone.
