How to convert text to currency

in LibreCalc 4.2.7.2
I have many pages and columns of spreadsheet values using “currency-as-text” (all entries preceded by single quote)
How do I convert these text entries to actual currency (leading single quote removed)?
The format dialog options allow me to select the cell(s) but nothing happens when I ok the change to currency.

Try with Menu/Data/Text to columns.
