How to create an interaction plot with two factors in Calc?

Hi there!

I wanted to know if it was possible to easily create an interaction plot with two factors in Calc.

My spreadsheet basically has 3 columns: the Genotype (5 values), the Treatment (3 values) and the data collected. I want to compare the means of the data between Genotypes AND treatments.

So, this is what I get in Calc when I use one data range with the two factors in “categories”:

And this is what I would like to get (obtained in R):

I guess I could add cells to have the means, then create a dataset for each treatment, and then add error bars, but there should be a cleaner and easier way to do this, shouldn’t it?

Here is an example of dataset: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1755762/Dataset%20example.ods

Hmm - would it be possible to show an example of the data source? This would make it easier to find a solution how to create a chart based on that data.

I added an example of dataset in the description. I couldn’t upload directly in Ask Libreoffice: I always get an error (“data is null”), and it is the same with images.

“…there should be a cleaner and easier way to do this, shouldn’t it?” Not really. A spreadsheet is designed to hold the full dataset, which a chart then selectively makes use of. You are going to need to interpolate the data (means) in the sheet, rather than chart. That is how I would do it.

@UbuntuBrisbane: i’m sorry, i agree with @oweng, i fear this exceeds calc’s capabilities without modifications of the datasource. Regarding upload problems: you’re right, this is an annoying AskBot bug - AFAIK the admins already tried (unsuccessfully) to fix it by updating the software… :-(.

Hi @UbuntuBrisbane, Did you find an answer to your problem?

No, qubit, I have to use another software to produce this kind of graphs.

@UbuntuBrisbane – Ah, okay, sorry to hear that. I’ll close out this question.
