How to create vertically stacked letters

I am trying to create a binder spine label. I want the text to stack vertically, as shown below.

         L L L
         I I I
         N N N
         E E E
         1 2 3

I would like to just type the lines of text normally, and to be able to use the normal font tool, but then turn it so it appears as I have shown above. Is there a simple way to do this?

Have you tried making a one character wide text box and then rotating it?

You could also insert a table having no background an no borders

(The right table is just a copy of the left but selected)

You can set a frame in Writer.

Menu Insert>Frame>Frame.

You can set the inside distance to the frame in the style/Frame style|Frame.

In the Sidebar (Ctrl+F5).

You can also place several frames next to each other.

I hope it helps you.

Add a left aligned table, with columns the with needed for the labels.

Type your text, and adjust left and right table borders so that there is room for only one character by line (monospaced fonts are helpful here).

See sample file, with columns width of 1 cm, and left and right margins of 0.25 cm.

EDIT: Also can use Calc with Wrap Text and cell Padding.

Tested with LibreOffice 6.4.7.2 (x86); OS: Windows 6.1.
