How to enter an index with content

I clicked on insert>table of contents and index. Then I wanted to make an index. But it only writes the title, as “alphabetical index”. Is there a way to automatically make an index with words and page numbers? Or we make it manually?

Have a look at the FAQs, Index / Table of Contents / Alphabetical Index / Bibliography

A index request will collect all index entries inserted in your text. If there are none, you get an empty alphabetical index with its own heading (as can be expected).

To insert an index entry:

  • select a word or group of words
  • Insert>TOC & Index>Index Entry
  • the key is pre-filled with the selection but you can change it at will
  • optionally, check the Apply to all similar texts to capture all other occurrences of the selection
(note this works on the current extent of the document; if you add new occurrences afterwards, you’ll have to index those as they were not known when the others were captured)
