I’m trying to get some data out of LibreOffice Base to work with in Calc.
In attempt number 1, I created a query in Base that contains the data I want, then tried to use File | Export… to export the data. However, the Export… menu item is not present when I have the query open. When the query is closed but selected in the main Base window, the Export… menu item is there, but it is greyed out. In fact it seems always to be greyed out.
In attempt number 2, I opened the query I created above and selected all the tuples/records in it. Then I did Ctrl-c to copy the selection to the clipboard. Then I went to LibreOffice Calc and did Ctrl-v to paste the data into a new spreadsheet, but the clipboard was empty – nothing had been copied when I did Ctrl-c in Base.
In attempt number 3, I repeated the steps of attempt number 2, but I used the Copy button in Base. Again the clipboard was empty.
In attempt number 4, I tried to use File | Open command from Calc to open the database file in Calc instead of in Base. But it got opened in Base all the same.
In attempt number 5, I tried the Insert | Sheet From File command in Calc. This allowed me to select the database file, but after I clicked the Insert button, Calc promptly forgot what file I’d asked for and failed to give me a dialog to select the query the results of which I wanted imported.
I’m out of ideas. I keep hearing how much LibreOffice has been improving of late so I’m rather disappointed to find upon attempting to use it for the first time in a couple of years that it still lacks basic functionality. I’d like to help improve it, at least by providing feedback on what’s not working, but I don’t even know where to begin filing a bug report for this – it seems like half a dozen things are broken in just this little use case.
