How to get the correct sum when using the auto-filter function

When I use the auto-filter to select only certain fields, then when I use the SUM function I end up getting the results of the whole column instead of just getting the sum of my filters fields.

How can I just get the total sum of my filtered field?

Thanks for any suggestions or solutions.

[SOLVED] Thanks, SUBTOTAL was the best way to go.

Also pivot tables may be a powerful tool to represent your data in very many ways.

Mike, thanks for your suggestion. Subtotal function was the easiest way for me on this spreadsheet. What I was doing, was to take my last year bank statement and break them down by “class”. For example all the sum total of my doctor payments. And I think for a “one” time call this was better than using the pivot tables.
