How to insert a new numbered chapter in the body of the page (not in the header or footer)

I have spent the last three hours Googling the web to try to find a concise answer to the following:

I want to be able to insert a new numbered chapter that:

automatically inserts a page break
moves the cursor six double spaced lines down
centers the word "Chapter " in 16 point type
adds the next chapter number

Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Referring to the Writer Guide, Chapter 5 Formatting Basics, (download from Documentation - The Document Foundation Wiki) might have been a better use of your time. You would be looking for either Chapter Numbering or Heading Numbering depending on LibreOffice version.

  1. Heading 1 paragraph style settings:
    • Indents & Spacings > Above paragraph set 6 times a double spaced line in the measurements you use, I set 6.00cm
    • Alignment > Options set Centre
    • Text Flow > Breaks tick Insert, you might also want to set the page style
  2. In Tools > Heading Numbering (or Chapter Numbering for older versions)
    • In Number set the sort of numbering you want, e.g. 1, 2, 3, …
    • Make sure Paragraph style is set to Heading 1
    • Under Separator type "Chapter " (without quotes but with trailing space)
    • OK

When you use this make sure you enter at least a space in your chapter paragraph or it won’t show in the Table of Contents. So on a new line enter a space and press Ctrl+1
