How to set password in LibreOffice 7.2

Running LibreOffice 7.2 in Linux Mint OS, just moved from LO 6.0. Some files created in the old LO will not open in 7.2 without a password. Can’t find how to do that in the user guide.

First preference is actually to eliminate the p/w requirement, as this is a secure residential setting.

Did the files have a password previously? If not, it might be a permissions issue in Linux Mint

No password used previously in LO v.6. It’s odd that just some, not all, of the docs created in v.6 are now p/w protected. Those protected docs will open with an alternate viewer, but, or course, cannot be edited.

The cited manual page instructs how to turn off p/w protection, but to do that the doc needs to be opened with the p/w. I need to find out how to set a p/w in the first place.

No password used before; then it is a permissions issue. The password asked for will be your Linux Mint password, not LO. If the paragraph below doesn’t help, then you will need someone who knows Linux; retag your question to add Linux.

You tagged basic, so I assume you have macros. You might need to add to Trusted Locations. Click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Security and click Macro security button to open the dialogue window shown below. Click Add button to add folders to Trusted Locations.

Are some of your files linked to files using Edit > Links to external files? You might need to Untick the box shown below accessed from Options button on same page.

Again thanks for posting. Went to try this today, and… all files now open without p/w even though no settings have been changed! Some other elements acting a bit off as well, a topic for another thread.

Thanks for posting. Just replaced LO 6.0 with 7.2 and trying to open docs created with the old version in 7.2. Never needed a password before, but some of those old docs will not open in 7.2 unless I enter a p/w, which I’ve never needed in 6.0 and have never had. Don’t know how to set a p/w and can’t find that in the user guide. Ultimate goal is to defeat the p/w requirement.
