How to shut off smooth scroll in Writer

When I search Smooth Scroll in Help, this is what comes up:

"Open a text document, choose LibreOffice - Preferences - LibreOffice Writer/LibreOffice Writer/Web - View. "

Smooth Scroll is not mentioned anywhere in this advice; it’s a misdirection. Where it is shown, there are no instructions in its use, how to activate or deactivate it. A whole lot of nothing. Waste of time.

When I’ve reviewing a document for changes, tightening, grammar, etc. I am running across a very annoying problem: there is a scrolling function, I assume is called “smooth scroll” which suddenly kicks in and scrolls the document, not the page, either to the top, or bottom of the document, no matter where I am in it. It’s frustratingly annoying to have to find where I was reading, and having to make my way back there. How do I shut it off? There are no directions I can find to do this. I want to scroll at my own speed without a speed demon taking my doc over, as has done too many times to remember.

I notice there is no reply or answer from LO; WHY NOT?! from 2020, NO ANSWERS! HELLO!!! WHERE IS EVERYBODY?!

Hello @trennor,
I can guess that you are working with iOS. Can your share what is your LibreOffice version? Thanks.

With me, version: 7.5.9.2 (x86) on Windows 6.1

But I think that is not a smooth scroll issue.
It could be the touch pad on the scroll bars, or a touch pad gesture; it could be Ctrl+Home, or Ctrl+End.
Have you noticed a work pattern related with this issue?

My current version turns out to be 7.1.4.2; I’m just now installing 7.6.4; and the window you show in your email (tyvm, btw) does not appear on my window. I will check the new version when it’s up and running. Oh god, does this mean I lose my custom dictionary too? or does it install around it??

Usually the profile is not changed by updates, but if you don’t have a backup of your profile I guess there is nothing important in it?? Or maybe you can recreate the dictionary more quickly than recovering from a backup…

Hello Wanderer,

Yes, thanks for the reassurance, and yes, my dictionary was still there once the new version was installed and settled in. Quite frankly, for what I do, simple word processing, LO is far too much for me; like being in a fully modern factory when a blacksmithy will do. Perhaps I should be looking for something that isn’t quite so complex. Thank-you for your suggestion, I’m glad you took the time.

Further to it, Now have ver. 7.6.4.1 loaded, and after some poking around, I found a ‘master’ solution if you will. I found and managed to turn off smooth scroll and the window, frame, document whatever it wants to be called is now finally behaving properly, though I had to shut down LO and my previous document in order to get it to work properly. I find it faster and easier though to use pg up or down, as the page often “sticks” when I try to scroll it. A lot of my troubles with this new version might be this aging computer. Thanks for the help though, LeRoy, appreciate your effort . Thanks again.
