I want to sort my pivot table by one of the data columns, but I can’t figure out how to do it. Is it possible?
L-user, I think your answer is what I was looking for. However, when I click the arrow next to “data” label nothing happens. I guess a menu should appear like it does for my column header. Perhaps a bug?
Drag the column by their title to the beginning of the columns position.
I you want sort by calculated field, edit the PT, right click on row/column field and in Options - Sort by you can select the calculated field.
Thank you!
Inside pivot table column header there is drop-down list. Click on drop-list’s arrow and select “Sort Ascending” or “Sort Descending”.
Also consider the order of columns/rows. Move column/row to the first position and then sort.
I’m not a very knowledgeable Calc user, but this will work:
- copy your pivot table
- paste in a new sheet
- select the column you want to sort on
- click
Data > Sort
, and choose the “Extend Selection” option - choose sort options > Sort!
Works for me. There might be a faster way, but at least this keeps the original pivot table intact, too.
This is sadly the only way to do this in version 6.0.1.1. Sorts prior to 6 seemed to sort on the first defined row or column field but no longer do in 6.0.1.1
Pivot table data can still be sorted in LO6. Edit the pivot table layout, then double-click on the first Row Field. This brings up a dialog that contains the Options button mentioned in @mariosv’s answer.
@jimk thank you for your comment! I think this is the best answer (it helped me), you definitely should post it as an answer, not just a comment! Especially for those who came here from search engines, like I did.
