On Writer text documents with a footer, the blue drop-down style box displays all the time and one can’t see to edit the text underneath it.
There must be a way to get it to display for only one or two seconds, or to turn it off, but I haven’t been able to find out how.

to disable the header/footer menu deactivate option Insert -> Header and Footer -> [ ] Use header/footer menu
