How do I insert special characters in LibreOffice on Ubuntu if Alt+188 or other key combinations don't work?

i am using ubuntu 14-04 lts and using libreoffice in hindi font kruti dev. i am not able to access the special character key like ( ) using alt+188, alt+189, alt+170 etc. how could i enable them?
