How to use Autocorrect to substitute in-house approved words and terms?

I often write technical documents that must comply with the aviation standard of Simplified English (SE).
I need to create a bank of Simplified English words that will automatically replace any ordinary words I may use by mistake.
I was able to do this with MS Word, but I now prefer to use Librewriter.
Here’s an example of what I need: ‘landing gear’ is the approved term to use, however it’s possible that I might write ‘undercarriage’ or ‘alighting gear’, in either case I want them automatically replaced by ‘landing gear’.
I can see that other writers could benefit from having the ability to do this, not only in aviation terms, but in whatever their industry may be.
Therefore, is it possible for me to create a SE word bank that will automatically delete a non-approved word/term and insert an approved one?

Create your own replacement table.

  1. Open Tools>AutoCorrect>AutoCorrectOptions, Replace tab.
  2. Enter the “faulty” word into Replace and the “approved word” in With, press kbd>New
Handling of plural or “declension” requires one entry per variant.
  3. Repeat as necessary
  4. Press OK when finished

The replacement takes effect as soon as you type a space or punctuation after the “faulty” word.

The table is stored in you “user profile”. If you need to transfer it on other computers, look at Tools>Options, LibreOffice>Paths, AutoCorrect entry to retrieve the directory name.

On my computer, this is ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/autocorr. There are as many AutoCorrext files as configured languages, e.g. acor_en-US.dat for default English(USA).
