I had 5.0.1 installed. It worked fine. I am stingy with disk space, so I erased the MSI file. Without it, I cannot update to 5.0.3, and 5.0.1 no longer works.
How can I get out of this mess. Is there somewhere I could download the 5.0.1 MSI file, just long enough to do the update?

Lo archive ftp site - you can find your .MSI file there.
USB stick formatted as storage. 4GB sticks cost nothing these days, and will represent themselves as storage from nowhere.
PS
I use 5.0.0 so you should not have a problem with 5.0.1. Perhaps start another question for that one. And next time do not forget to mention which OS.

If it is MSI file then it is on some sort of Windows.
You will probably need to do some “hacking”. Try manually deleting your C:<install_dir>\LibreOffice5 and then install new version of LibreOffice.
