I am trying to download LibreOffice

Hello

I am trying to download LibreOffice. I get as far as where the screen blacks out, and a box appears asking me to type in a password.

this confuses me: I don’t know what password I have to type in. I tried my Microsoft account password, but that was not accepted.

I use Microsoft 10, and Brave

regards

Please, share a screenshot, or the text (title and content) of that box. Thanks.

At the top of the box:

Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?

Beneath that:

LibreOffice 7 4 3 2

Further down:

To continue, enter an admin user name and password

Hope you can help: I’ve spent 2 hours on this already It’s wearing me out

This sounds as you already (successfully) downloaded “something”. (We can not see/know what you downloaded and don’t know from where).
.
When anbody wants to install software he/she/they need to allow this by giving an admin password. If you don’t know this, ask the person who installed your OS. Otherwise you are not allowed to do.
.
Then you have 2 options: Reinstalling the OS (keep backups) so YOU know the password afterwards or using portable Software, wich runs without installation - if your security-system allows.

This is an anti-virus message. an “admin user name” is a user who has authorisation to do “sensitive” operations. Usually (in well-behaved configuration), you separate it from your everyday user account (but this is not a strict requirement). Type the id for a session with given capacity and the corresponding password.
Note that these data are local to your machine and have nothing to do with online accounts you may have.

You may also temporarily disable your anti-virus but you’ll have some difficulty to enable LO afterwards.

Thanks guys. I have an idea what has happened. I should have thought of it earlier. I am unable to use my main laptop account, because I am unable to type in the password. Some of the keys on the keyboard stopped working, so I have to copy and paste those letters. But Microsoft doesn’t allow copy and pasting when you log in so you can use the computer. Fortunately, I had set up an alternative user account, with a different password (following Rob Braxman’s advice on YT) I am using that. But it doesn’t have admin privileges. It looks like I’ll have to get the keyboard fixed, or get a new laptop. It’s an old one, and has seen better days.

Plug-in a USB keyboard;

Thanks, I’ll look into that. Prices seem reasonable.

You could even borrow one from a desktop computer for the few minutes it takes to change your other password.
.
But it can be useful to have a spare one…
