I am worried that OpenOffice and LibreOffice might share some common resources. Should I uninstall OpenOffice before I install LibreOffice ?
No need to uninstall first. If there are shared resources in use, you will be prompted to quit all running apps which use them.
The only likely “conflict” is the choice of which app should be the default handler for open document formats.
Over the last 6-7 months I have had several combinations of OpenOffice (vv 2.4 up to 4.1.8) installed aside LO (vv 6.x-7.x) in Windows 10. Uninstalled and reinstalled, back and forth. Never had an issue.
The shared resources (not blocking co-existence):
- Registry entries (file associations);
- Explorer extension registration (search/detail) - also in registry;
- Fonts (esp. OpenSymbol, since it’s important part of e.g. Math, and of bullets - we changed it a lot; it should be backward-compatible, and we got no complaints so far, but if AOO overwrites our copy, it could be a problem; also in last versions, we made OpenSymbol an internal resource in share in install directory, so it should not be shared anymore).
You can have both. Note that installing LibreOffice may change file associations. Search this site, there have been several discussions about AOO/LO coexistence.
