docs stored with older version won’t open what happened and how do I recover
What exactly does “won’t open” mean? How are you trying to open them?
What operating system do you use?

The definition version 7 is less helpful.
Select Help>About LibreOffice from the menu, now you can see the version in four digits (e.g. 7.1.1.2).
