I run Win 7 on an hp laptop. As soon as I launch LO (usually Writer) the whole computer slows right down. What's the problem?

Works fine for browsing and email,until I start LO. I have Windows 7 and LO version is 5.4.3.2
This did not happen until recently and I wonder if I can go back to an earlier version of LO?
