I want to buy the Starter Guide. I have 4.4 but the guide is for 4.2. Will this be OK for me?

There is no need to buy guides for LibreOffice: you can download them for free: http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/
Usually the documentation is lagging 1 or 2 versions behind, but they will be of great help anyway.
