Hi all -
I’m trying to transition from microsoft office and I’m really confused about how to rebuild my master slides in Impress. I’m very comfortable with using master slides and custom layouts and have a multiple custom themes in my powerpoint setup that I want to transfer to impress. I got stuck almost immediately so I’m looking for advice on how to proceed.
I tried setting up masters for the title page and regular pages, but it won’t let me delete any elements in the master slide, so my title page shows with a regular slide outline which isn’t helpful.
Setting up a master for regular content pages sort of works, but again, it seems to assume specific layouts and it keeps adding a new text box that isn’t updated to the fonts set in the master. Also the list of layouts isn’t really very clear, and I really want thumbnails of the layouts so I don’t have to guess when selecting one. Additionally, it’s pretty limited and doesn’t really allow me to incorporate any of the custom visualizations I’ve created (which all have text boxes aligned to the specific visualization based on how I need to present information).
It seems like slide masters are different in impress vs powerpoint, but I don’t see anything resembling the nested master/layout structure that powerpoint uses. I’m hoping to just import my layouts for the more complicated visuals, but I don’t see a way to do that, and it doesn’t look like i can just create a separate master for each one since I can’t delete elements from the master anyway.
Every post I’ve seen about slide masters links to one of a couple videos that all describe masters at a pretty high level. I already know the concept of a slide master and how updates cascade to slides, and I can change elements in the master with little difficulty (aside from deleting the preset text boxes) so those videos have not been helpful. What I really need is some understanding how to transfer my powerpoint setup to impress without having to rebuild everything individually or creating a more laborious workflow than necessary.
Any help/advice/tips for accomplishing this?
Here’s a few visuals to illustrate the above - (the forum view won’t let me post multiple images for some reason)
