Imported images from windows snip-it apparently overrides the text document anchor setting?

I have a new document and before I began inserting images I changed the anchor setting from To Character to be As Character and unchecked overlap, which in theory prevents imported images from pasting on top of one another, but they do. The images are png format. When the images import (or direct copy and paste) the inserted image has “To Character” and the check box for overlap is filled. When I go back to the text document settings those still show “As Character” and the overlap box is unchecked.

Am I doing something wrong? Does the image file format or windows attribute matter? Is there a fix, other than to change the inserted image properties one image at a time?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

I am using

When pasted images receive a default frame style, i.e. built-in Graphics. My suggestion would be to customise this style.

However, you didnt mention another very important factor: is your document saved as .odt? Only this format will guarantee that any manipulation you’ll apply to your images will be persistent. If you save DOCX, your document will be converted on load and converted back on save; These formats are not drop-in replacements for one another and differ largely when it comes to image layout.

I cannot reproduce, even using Windows Snipping Tool (Win+Shift+S) and .docx format. I see that the Microsoft page mentions Options for the tool but I might have an older version as I can’t find options.

The Snipping Tool acts differently if it is copying from a browser, I guess it saves the contents as HTML. It might alter its behaviour when copying from other programs.

You could try pasting in LibreOffice Safe mode to see if it happens there. In LibreOffice menu, click Help > Restart in Safe mode > Continue in Safe Mode, open a new blank Writer document and try pasting the same clipboard contents that pasted To Character. If it is OK in Safe Mode, then a backup and then reset of your user profile might be called for, LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki

Personally, I don’t use Snipping Tool; I use GreenShot which doesn’t interact with Co-Pilot or other programs and does just what I set it to do.
