Impress: Master Slide and Field functions?

I am very confused.

I want to make a presentation and do it right. I watched a video tutorial. So, I am able to select font and style of elements, symbols and even add objects.

This is all fine.

But I want to have a small bar at the bottom, always there, and field functions on there to display date, author and number of slides.

This works when doing the hacky “clone slide” thing, but I want to do it cleanly.

Adding the field functions on the master slide does not work. The ones that dont depend on multiple slides work, so date and author are set. But I think they are set as the variable that is correct on the master slide?

So page number and total page count are empty.

Anyone know how I can do this right?

Can that help?

I think this tells nothing new.

The field functions appear to be broken

One possible workaround, although I’m not sure whether it still works as I haven’t had to do it since the new fields were introduced into Impress, was to copy the date field from a Writer document and copy/paste that into your master slide.

The help works for me exactly although I did just add the grey shape to the Master without looking at help. The slide shows Date, Author, Page and Page Count field. Does adding a new slide to the sample below include the fields when you do it?

If it doesn’t then try in Safe Mode, click Help > Restart in safe mode > Continue in Safe Mode. If it works OK in Safe Mode then there might be corruption in the user profile. I prefer the Manual method to reset user profile and then copy back needed folders, LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki
