Impress - PPT File Click Action Not Retained

I opened a ppt file in Libreoffice Impress, and was mostly impressed. When I started the slide show and clicked the icon that is supposed to have a sound play, it didn’t play the desired sound. I went back to the design view and checked the “interaction” of that icon and it said “on mouse click … do nothing”. I changed “do nothing” to “play a sound” and selected the sound to play then it worked. I have lots of these slides with sound files associated with them and would rather not have to redesign the slides, etc. Is there a trick to keep the click action associated with an icon? Does it have to do with the fact that the desired action is “play a sound” ?

For what it’s worth, there is also supposed to be a sound playing (the same sound as the one that should be attached to the icon I think) playing when the slide loads.

I am unable to attach the file because, although it’s mine, I’m not allowed to share it. It’s the resource CD from Classical Conversations.

I never worked with sounds but have to deal often with ppt or pptx formats. Experience is that it is difficult to hit the moving target of MSO formats. Therefore, I assume that the link to the sound gets lost during the ppt conversion.

Here is what I would try:

  • Save the ppt-file in the LibO native format odp
  • (Re-)Attach the sound file newly and save again in odp (make sure it is a sound which has no limitation like from a CD)
  • Run the presentation to see if the sound is played properly.

Depending on the result you will see if my guessing was correct.

In general I stay LibO native formats as long as possible. Most often a pdf-export is sufficient to handover a presentation to someone else. Being forced to run a presentation on a PC with MS Powerpoint, I use a portable version of LibO with my odp-presentation. Only if all these alternatives don’t work I save in Powerpoint format, knowing that there can some losses occur. Currently (LibO 4.2.4.2) I prefer ppt-format.
