impress slow, laggish.. almost unusable

I am running LO6.3.2 with ubuntu 18.04 on a HP i7 laptop with 16Gb RAM and SSD drive.

I am stating to work on a new presentation where I only have 6 slides, 3 pictures in total, and yet when I click on an item (text or picture) I have to wait a few seconds to actually get the item selected.

Given the fact that all, and I repeat ALL other office suites (M$, ONLYOFFICE, SoftMaker, and WPS) do have a snappy performance with the same file, I am close to uninstall LO for good as it is unusable, but I want to give it a shot here before i do that…

To summarize, my questions are:

1. is it a known issue?
2. if so, is there a workaround?
3. has anyone had the same experience and been able to solve the issue?

I highly suspect that someone or some group is privately funded by giant office-suite manufacturers and on purpose is destroying Libreoffice.
