When I copy data from a LO Calc spreadsheet to a LO Base table, right clicking the table name provides me with a menu of options. The one option I want to use, “paste”, is grayed out. The name of my spreadsheet and the name of my table are the same. All of the fields that are in the Calc spreadsheet have the same name as the one in the table. I have a blank ID column in the spreadsheet that I will not allow to be copied over when I paste, thus leaving my key field in the table free to do its job.
So, why is this and what must I do to correct the problem?
Thank you very much.
Don’t know why, but I’ve seem this sometimes. Usually closing LibreOffice completely, then restarting helps. I assume the problem is with the handling of the clipboard, so Base sees no valid grid to paste.
Thank you Wanderer. I will try that.
Here are just a few ideas to help get past this issue:
- Open the LO base file first and switch to “Tables”.
- Do not copy the spreadsheet file itself, but open it, select, and copy all the desired data of one sheet, including the (first) row of column names.
- Leave the spreadsheet open while switching to the open odb window, right click somewhere in the “Tables” area, then check if the “Paste” option is enabled.

Thank you skyandrews. The paste and paste special options now show. Hooray!
