In Calc. How to stop a value from incrementing when copying by draging to an adjacent cell

Eric:

Thanks so much for the reply to my inquiry. Appreciated.

The Ctrl + drag method works OK for me as I usually just want to copy the value in one cell to the cell vertically below it, with no change in the value, when I drag the lower right corner of the upper cell to the one below. For some reason LibreOffice’s spreadsheet, apparently by default, increments the value copied in this manner by one. Why that would be a default I have no idea. I cannot find a way to turn off this action.

This is not a serious complaint as I like the LibreOffice Suite very much.

Regards.

Albert…

I guess it is beyond your possibilities, but for OpenSource you can always compile your own version…

  • Lets assume you need on row per day. Put a date in A1 and drag down.
  • Somebody may need simple numbering 1,2,3… Just drag and you are done
  • A variant of above: Incrementing month Jan, Feb, Mar or by day oof week Mon, Tue …
  • Already described above: Increment by one is only the default. Mark two rows and it will increment by the difference
  • Mixed increments for ids are possible A1, A2 A3

But if you don’t have a clue how to use this, obviously nobody in the world can find this useful. You may write it off as strange idea of some german programmer creating StarOffice, wich was never removed ( As MS has not documented when it chooses to annoy users like @EarnestAl with surprising behaviour, it can’t be reproduced as perfect bug-for-bug compatibility. )

I am afraid that is beyond my “capabilities”.
