Inability to disable "track changes" for a document once enabled, and no checkmark showing enablement

Win11, LO 25.8.42

I have track changes enabled in a document. I am unable to turn it off at present. Symptoms:

  • Edit | Track Changes shows no checkmark, neither now nor if I attempt to toggle it by choosing “Record”. Am I looking in the right place?
  • Any changes I make create tracked changes to be accepted or rejected
  • Attempting to toggle enablement via Edit | Track Changes | Record has no discernible effect, and any alterations continue to create changes
  • After saving and reopening the file, table rows and tables that were deleted before saving reappear

Is there some glaring oversight of mine that is the cause of this?

There are 2 settings: Record and Show.

  • Record keeps editing history
  • Show, independently, displays editing history

If you want to get rid of the editing history, Edit>Track Changes>Manage allows you to accept changes individually to clean document editing history.
