Inconsistencies with border width settings

Whenever I make adjustments to the border width of cells, the results are inconsistent; sometimes the adjustments show up, sometimes they don’t.

For example I have attached a document detailing one of the problems I have been having. In this document, the border width of all four borders of cell B2 have been changed to 1.00 pt, whereas the surrounding cells in row 2 have all four of their borders set to 0.05 pt. However, despite the adjustment to cell B2’s border width settings, you can see that the borders all look the same for all cells in row 2, leading me to believe that the adjustment didn’t work.

That being said, there have been other times when I have made the same changes, and the changes do show up.

You need to zoom-in to see it. It is 1pt=0.3527mm and 0.05pt=0.01763mm. If the width is smaller than 1 pixel on your screen, then at least one pixel is drawn, to make it visible at all. So if both are smaller than 1 pixel, both are drawn as 1 pixel. On my screen already 100% zoom shows, that the borders are different; using 400% shows it clearly. Printers have much smaller pixels than screens. On printing you should see the difference.

Ahh, that makes a lot of sense. That explains why when I print documents I can see the border width changes clearly. Thanks, that was driving me nuts; I never thought to zoom in.
